Sweet Potatoes vs Peas

Well when Savannah and I got back from our trip to Maryland it was decided that introducing food was appropriate. She'd been eating rice cereal since Valentines Day but when it was time to start her on food we were about to leave and I didn't want Jacob to miss her eating. Its a good thing I decided to hold off too because she started crawling and sitting up in Maryland and I think it would have broken Jacob's heart to miss so much. So I decided to start off feeding her sweet potatoes, a logical choice I thought. It had been recommended by others and after all it has the word sweet in it, how can a baby not like it?

So looking at the picture you'd think she loved the sweet potatoes right? Well you're wrong! She was gagging like she was about to throw up and spitting them out the whole time! It was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. After eating them for a week she realized they weren't so bad as long as I mix them with her rice cereal. So her next food introduction was peas. As a side note,I was given the best gift ever! A baby food maker. I wasn't adventurous enough to make the sweet potatoes myself but I made her peas and they went over much better, even though she did gag after the first few bites.

I should have figured Savannah would like peas better then sweet potatoes because Jacob and I hate sweet potatoes too. Needless to say its pretty fun watching her experience new tastes and seeing all her weird reactions. She definitely makes us laugh every day and is the best thing that has ever happened to us.

No longer my little baby girl

Well here she is my little crawler! Its crazy to believe that just a few weeks ago I could leave the room and when I came back she'd be right where I left her. Now if I leave the room I better run because by the time I get back I may not be able to find her. I won't lie though I love that she can crawl and I get to see her start to explore and become even more aware of things around her. It also give me extra incentive to make sure the house is always clean because she can get to anything and loves shoving everything in her mouth.

Maryland Part II

Here we are back in Idaho so its time to start where I left off last time and finish up our trip to Maryland. I must also add that it was the BEST trip ever and I loved every minute of it. So where to begin...
Well I must say I've become quite a fan of Rock Band, I'm totally not a video game girl by any means, I actually really don't like them but I LOVE this game!!!! Plus you get to dress up your character in super cute outfits, its like I get to go shopping but I don't have to spend money. What could be better then that? I know I can't think of anything either. Anyway you've probably guessed that I played that with my brother Mark and my mom even plays with us so it was fun times all around. I even let Savannah play the drums a little bit, she thought it was quite the fun thing to do.

One of my oldest friends Jenny also came over with her cute little girl Hailey. Now when I say oldest I do mean in the sense that we've known each other for a super long time not that she is old, she's actually younger then I am. As you can tell I'm pretty literal, a trait I get from my mom. It was so fun talking with her and visiting we always have so much fun together and I just love her to pieces.
Savannah and I also got to spend more time with the McCombs which is always fun times. We went out to lunch with my Grandparents and Aunt Claudia. My cousin Stacey got to come over and hang out one night also. Its so nice to get to see my family since we're so far from each other. I think one of my favorite things about seeing them was when my Grandpa held Savannah the day we left. Oh my was she excited! As soon as he got her in his arms she was smiling and screaming, kicking her legs and just SO happy to be with him. She was instantly in love with him. She likes everyone but you can tell who she ardors and my grandpa is one of those people.
One of the funniest things that happened was when my family was hanging out with my Uncle Tom's family. My mom's side of the family are big game players and until recently I detested board games so its a good thing I came around. Anyway, it was hilarious but to those reading I don't think you'll find it as funny as we did. We played Cranium so it was the Howell's vs the McCombs and we struggled when we got to the star performer category because we always seemed to pick the humdinger category. Now the teams consist of three distinct age groupings...you have those who are 40+, the 20 year olds and a 12 and 14 year old. Needless to say none of us were on the same page with songs. It was the funniest thing ever listening to each team try to hum these songs knowing full on that those on their team would never ever guess what they were humming. It was beyond hilarious. Now you thinking how could it get funnier right? Well I'll tell you! So after the McCombs team won, yeah us...the boys went down stairs for more Rock Band playing. So all of the sudden my cousin Brian's cell phone starts vibrating so his sister Bonnie picks it up to see what's going on. Some girl whose name I've already forgotten, was texting Brian. So instead of going downstairs to tell Brian he has a text or just leaving the phone alone, Bonnie texts her back. The conversation was priceless and all those witnessing the event were crying because we were laughing so hard.
Now you may be asking yourself how could this trip get any better and once again I'll tell you! Savannah started crawling!!!!!!!!!!! My baby is no longer a motionless lump she is a social butterfly on the go. Jacob was super sad that he missed it but I of course sent him a video of the wonderful event.

So finally our trip was over and it was time to fly back home to Idaho. Once again Savannah was a perfect angel and most people on the plan told me they forgot she was even on the plan because she was so quite. The reason she was so quite? She slept the whole way on both flights, totally awesome but also it totally sucked. Another funny side note, when we got past security and got to Jacob he couldn't wait to hold Savannah who was now wide awake after a 7 hour nap. So he picks her up and is just hugging and hugging her until she starts throwing up her entire bottle all over him! It was so funny and cute because he freaks out when Savannah get a little spit up on him but he missed her so much he didn't even care that she threw up all over him. Anyway when our flight landed in Idaho at 11 pm it sucked that Savannah was wide awake and up till 1:30 am since I had to go to work this morning. Now when I told my mom this she said boy I bet she didn't want to get up to go to the sitters and she was wrong. Savannah woke up at like 5 am! I don't know what is up with this child, she is an early riser but you totally can't be upset with her when she wakes up and gives you the biggest smile that it just melts your heart.

I love being a mom even though it means I don't ever get to sleep in. Anyway I digressed a bit...needless to say Savannah and I had a wonderful time in Maryland and were sad to leave but as always we were happy to come home.

Maryland Part I

Well here I am in Maryland again, this is Savannah's second time back East and I must say the Lord loves me because Savannah is the BEST little traveler ever! We left Boise on Wednesday morning and flew into Vegas which is the least child friendly airport I think. They have no play area! So I had to find a patch of carpet and try to keep Savannah on her blanket as she kept trying to crawl off to grab some piece of garbage she would see. Mind you this is the only blanket I have available so I had to make sure I used the clean side once were on the plane. I'm so glad I put hand sanitizer in the diaper bag. Anyway...its a 41/2 hour flight from Vegas to Baltimore so the flight attendants made some jokes on the over head about how ear plugs were $10 and Prozac was $20. Needless to say people were not excited to have a 6 month old on that flight. I will admit it can be scary with a baby that young you don't know how they'll behave so I have my own little tricks. Like once we get on the plane I head for the back where there are still whole rows of seats open and I make sure to hold Savannah up so everyone will see why my row is still open. Needless to say I had no one sitting with me from Vegas to Baltimore and she slept like the whole flight! Yep she is my little travel buddy. I hardly ever have to put my bags in the overhead compartment because someone does it for me and I get three seats all to myself. I love flying with a baby...so far that is.
So this is a longer trip this time around, Savannah and I are here for 11 days while Jacob is at home working. This is the longest we have ever been apart even when we were dating in different states, so its a bit weird to not have him around. Also it sucks not having him around to help take care of Savannah. Anyways, its been a fun trip so far, Mark is trying to beat Jordan out as the favorite Uncle on my side and Savannah is loving that my parents have a dog and cat that she can try to play with. She's having fun with her Grandma and Grandpa and of course everyone is also a little excited to see me. Savannah also got to visit with her Great Grandma and Grandpa yesterday, it was way fun and they all loved seeing each other. My grandparents have this little mini poodle named Gidget and my oh my did Savannah love her. She could hardly keep her eyes off that dog and Gidget did not know what to think of Savannah. I have never heard that dog bark so much, it was driving me crazy. Savannah could have cared less about the barking she just wanted to grab Gidget and not let go and finally Gidget decided she liked Savannah and that it would be nice of her to lick any part of her she could reach. Once again I'm thankful for hand sanitizer. As a side note I must say I'm really not a germ freak or anything but hello we have Savannah laying on a dirty grimy airport floor and then a dog licking her everywhere...I think everyone would be agreeing with me. Well I think this is a good place to end for now, as you can see this is just Maryland Part I because were only 5 days into our 11 day trip.

It has happened!

Yes I have joined the masses and started a blog. Hopefully you all enjoy reading about our little family and some of the fun things we get to do. I will be honest, were not that exciting but it should be good times.
